Remote U.S. Expat Tax Preparer (CPA / EA / JD)

Taxes for Expats (TFX) is looking for experienced CPA, EA, or tax attorneys to join our team preparing tax returns for Americans living abroad.

We are a well-established U.S. expat tax firm with 20+ years of experience, serving thousands of clients in 190+ countries worldwide. Our preparers benefit from a steady flow of clients, allowing them to focus on tax preparation without needing to source their own clients.

This role is fully remote and offers flexible workload options, making it ideal for tax professionals who want seasonal, part-time, or flexible work.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and file accurate expatriate tax returns for U.S. citizens living abroad

  • Provide expert guidance on international tax laws, compliance requirements, and tax planning strategies based on current IRS regulations

  • Collaborate with clients to gather necessary documentation and information

  • Address client inquiries and provide exceptional customer service throughout the tax preparation process

  • Ensure all tax filings meet deadlines and compliance standards

Qualifications

  • Active U.S. CPA, EA, or JD required

  • 2+ years of U.S. expatriate tax preparation experience OR
    5+ years of general U.S. tax preparation experience

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal tax law

  • Experience with FBAR, FATCA, or other international reporting is a plus

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple returns during busy season

Compensation

This role uses a commission-based compensation structure tied to completed tax returns.

  • Typical earnings during peak season range between $5,000–$8,000+ per month (February – June, September – November), depending on workload, return complexity, and productivity.
