Description

American Traveler seeks an NBSTSA-certified Surgical Technologist with CVOR experience for a hospital-based position supporting open heart and vascular surgical cases.

Details

  • Hospital CVOR unit averaging 6 cases per day
  • Patient population includes open heart surgery and vascular cases
  • Day shift hours, 06:00–14:30, with weekday schedule and weekend call requirements
  • 26-week contract

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of surgical technologist experience
  • CVOR experience required, with confidence in open heart and vascular cases
  • NBSTSA certification required — this is the only certification recognized in South Carolina
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA only)
  • License required if applicable

Additional Information

  • Work under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures
  • Ensure OR rooms, supplies, and equipment are prepared and available to support efficient perioperative processes
  • Maintain sterile instruments, sutures, and equipment with a working knowledge of each device
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, draping, and establishing the sterile field
  • Participate in surgical site and patient verification during time out procedures
  • Perform initial and subsequent instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator
  • Prepare and pass off specimens as appropriate
  • Assist with lifting, turning, and positioning patients using proper body mechanics
  • Perform terminal cleaning of instruments and assist with terminal cleaning of the OR room
  • Use standard precautions and appropriate PPE when handling hazardous substances including blood and body fluids
  • Must be flexible, punctual, and willing to continue learning in the surgical environment
