CDL-A Semi-Local Driver - Dedicated Account | $84K Average | Home Weekends

Position Overview

Hiring experienced semi-local CDL-A drivers for our award-winning Meijer dedicated account. This is a Sunday-Thursday position with weekends off, delivering to Meijer stores across the Midwest and shuttling between distribution centers.

Operating Area: IL, IN, WI, OH, MI (including Upper Peninsula)
Primary Routes: Chicago suburbs (85-90% of runs), plus shuttles between Lansing, MI and Pleasant Prairie distribution centers


Compensation & Earnings

Average Annual Earnings: $84,000

Two-Tier Pay Structure:

REGIONAL RUNS (75% of loads) - 200+ miles from origin to destination:

  • Starting: $0.63 per mile (avg 2,500-2,700 miles/week)
  • 1 Year: $0.645 per mile
  • 3 Years: $0.66 per mile
  • Stop Pay: $20 per stop

LOCAL RUNS (25% of loads) - Under 200 miles from origin to destination:

  • Starting: $0.725 per mile
  • 1 Year: $0.735 per mile
  • 3 Years: $0.745 per mile
  • Stop Pay: $30 per stop

Additional Pay:

  • Backhaul Pickup Pay: $30 per backhaul pick-up at vendor
  • Breakdown Pay: $25/hour after 2 hours (up to $300/day depending on breakdown type)
  • Weekly Attendance Bonus: $100/week for on-time availability and checking in before departing
  • Hourly/Safety Pay: $20/hour
  • Training Pay: Mileage + stop pay (typically 3 days)
  • Safety bonus opportunities

2024 Pay Increase:

Schedule & Home Time

Sunday - Thursday schedule
Friday & Saturday OFF every week
Out 2-3 nights per week on average
6:00 AM start time
Variety of routes/shifts available after initial training period

Time Off:

  • Year 1: 7 paid days off (PTO)
  • After Year 1: 10 paid days off (PTO)
  • 6 paid holidays
  • May work holidays if they fall on regularly scheduled workdays


Job Details & Responsibilities

Delivery Operations:

  • Daily deliveries to 40 Meijer stores across IL (no downtown Chicago), Northern IN, MI (including Upper Peninsula), OH, and WI
  • Chicago suburb runs are primary activity (85-90% of runs from both Pleasant Prairie & Lansing)
  • Shuttle freight between 2 distribution facilities in Lansing, MI and Pleasant Prairie, WI
  • Pick up backhauls returning to Lansing, MI

Freight Handling:

  • 85% drop and hook operations
  • No touch freight - outbound store shipments are drop and hook at DC and delivery locations
  • Trailer types: 45', 48', 53' box trailers
  • Average 4 stops per load

Equipment:

  • Single bunk sleeper trucks
  • Slip seating only required during mandatory services
  • Trucks stay at account during home time (not taken home)


Requirements

✔️ Valid Class A CDL
✔️ Safe driving record
✔️ HazMat endorsement required within 90 days (account reimburses cost)
✔️ Comfortable with Chicago suburb deliveries (no downtown Chicago)
✔️ Ability to be on-site by 6:00 AM start time
✔️ Must check with recruiter if you've previously worked for Meijer (approval required)

Primary Service Area:

  • Chicago Suburbs (85-90% of runs): No downtown Chicago - suburb deliveries only
  • Northern Indiana: Meijer store deliveries
  • Wisconsin: Store deliveries and Pleasant Prairie DC shuttle
  • Ohio: Store deliveries
  • Michigan: Including Upper Peninsula store deliveries

Typical Week:

  • Mix of regional runs (200+ miles, higher mileage pay)
  • Mix of local runs (under 200 miles, higher per-mile rate)
  • Shuttle runs between Lansing and Pleasant Prairie DCs
  • Backhaul pickups (additional $30 per pickup)
  • Average 2,500-2,700 miles per week on regional runs
