The Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The position will primarily be at the University of Calgary or within Calgary, as allowed and required by the research projects.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Assisting in the design of automated systems for experimental neuroscience applications
  • Engage in the design, fabrication, and testing of hardware and software systems to integrate custom and commercial systems for experimental neuroscience
  • Develop AI-assisted systems for the analysis of neuroscience data
  • Aid in the writing of manuscripts
  • Document data analysis plans and execution
  • Collaborate closely with experimental and computational colleagues

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree required
  • MSc in a quantitative discipline preferred (e.g. computer science, mathematics, or physics)
  • 2-5 years of related research experience
  • Experience in quantitative methods, such as differential equations and machine learning is required
  • Experience in automation is required
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Demonstrate strong communication
  • Strong organizational skills, including task management, codebase management, and documentation of technical materials in both electronic design and algorithms
  • Excellent English language skills in reading, writing and oral communication
