POSITION INFORMATION<br><br><strong>City of Lathrop<br><br>Recreation Leader (PART-TIME, SEASONAL POSITION)<br><br></strong><strong>Work Schedule: May 26, 2026 through August 14, 2026<br><br></strong><strong> Monday-Friday with work hours between 6:45 a.m. - 6:15 p.m. (up to 30 hours per week)<br><br></strong><strong>Seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits, vacation or holiday pay<br><br></strong><strong>The Position<br><br></strong>The Recreation Leader is the entry level support class responsible for providing support to recreation staff for the implementation of a wide variety of recreation break camps (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) and is responsible for general custodial and facility related concerns.<br><br>The ideal candidate will demonstrate high energy, dependability, attentiveness and the ability to multitask.<br><br><strong>About Lathrop<br><br></strong>Incorporated in 1989, the City of Lathrop is located in the Northern San Joaquin Valley and sits east and west of the San Joaquin River. Interstate 5, Interstate 205, and State Route 120 intersect within the city. We are located approximately 70 miles east of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Sacramento. Monterey, Santa Cruz, Napa Valley, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains are all located within 2 hours of Lathrop. Lathrop is centrally located within a 30-minute commute of Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Ripon, Lodi, Modesto, and Livermore. Lathrop’s population as of January 1, 2025, reported by the State of California Department of Finance, is 38,596. Additionally, the City of Lathrop made headlines in 2021, 2022, 2023 , 2024 and 2025 as one of Northern California’s fastest-growing communities. In 2024, Lathrop was reported to be the 5th fastest growing city in the country. With the continued growth in the residential communities, our population is anticipated to reach approximately 70,000.<br><br><strong>Supervision Exercised/Received<br><br></strong>Receives general supervision from a Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Coordinator. May receive lead and/or functional supervision from a Senior Recreation Leader. Incumbents may be required to routinely assist supervision of programs or facilities.<br><br><strong>Essential Functions<br><br></strong><em>Including, but not limited to the following:<br><br></em><ul><li>Assists in monitoring and leading recreational activities such as group games, arts and crafts, camp songs, science experiments and other summer activities.</li><li>Help check in/out participants</li><li>Enforce safety policies</li><li>Deliver clear instructions</li><li>Communicate effectively with parents, participants and staff<br><br></li></ul><strong>The full job description(s) can be viewed by accessing the following link:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Recreation Leader - $20.30 to $24.68 Hourly. <br><br></li></ul><strong>Experience And License/Certifications<br><br></strong><strong>Education and/or Experience<br><br></strong>Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Recreation Leader. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of experience implementing recreation programs or events, and a high school diploma or equivalent.<br><br><strong>Other Information<br><br></strong><strong>Physical Working Conditions<br><br></strong>Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work. Position requires prolonged sitting, running, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, repetitive hand movement, climbing fences, and crawling under houses in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when performing investigations, operating assigned equipment and reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer. The need to lift, carry and push animals and supplies weighing 100 pounds or more, with the proper lifting carrying, pushing and/or pulling techniques to minimize risk, may also be required. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, weather, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances. The incumbent may be exposed to waste and infectious materials, and use cleaning chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to handle aggressive and biting animals/wildlife attacks; handle and move dead animals; drive motorized vehicles, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions, and often work with constant interruptions.<br><br><strong>Applications<br><br></strong>Use the "Apply" link to submit your application materials for this wonderful opportunity.
