About the position

We are looking for enthusiastic marketing interns to join our marketing department and provide creative ideas to help achieve our goals. You will have administrative duties in developing and implementing marketing strategies. This internship will help you acquire marketing skills and provide you with knowledge of various marketing strategies. Ultimately, you will gain broad experience in marketing and should be prepared to enter any fast paced work environment. All internships are in Santa Cruz County.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Santa Cruz METRO’s marketing, community outreach, public education, and graphic design programs and activities.
  • Tracks and reports on progression of assigned tasks/projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Represents Santa Cruz METRO at various public events and outreach events, must maintain professional demeanor with all members of the public and present METRO in a professional manner
  • Assists with research and data collection, as assigned, from various sources such as interviews with riders, onboard surveys, representatives, community partners, organizations, and employees.
  • Provides information via phone or written communication on marketing, community outreach, and public information and education events and campaigns to METRO and various stakeholder groups, as assigned.
  • Coordinates with other Santa Cruz METRO departments such as marketing, planning, fleet, fixed-route operations, paratransit operations, human resources, and customer service, as assigned, to assist the Marketing Dept. with programs, projects, strategies, and events.
  • With direction, creates graphic designs and artwork for marketing, engagement, education, and informational materials; takes and edits photos and videos
  • Prepares written drafts and edits on materials such as flyers, event recaps, social media posts, reports, and other marketing and informational materials, as assigned.
  • Creates content for, posts on, and uploads photos/artwork to Santa Cruz METRO’s websites, internal and external blogs, and organic social media sites
  • Reviews placement & quality of paid advertisements on behalf of Santa Cruz METRO and on Santa Cruz METRO’s buses and at bus stops
  • Transports materials and supplies to and from sites; assists with marketing inventory.
  • Drives a Santa Cruz METRO vehicle to perform assignments.
  • Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
  • Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university with a major in course work aligned with the academic and functional requirements of this position with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 of higher. Graduate students are welcome to apply. Students must submit an official college transcript to verify eligibility. Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, including all student visas. Students must live in Santa Cruz County area while employed as an intern.
  • AND/OR Recent college graduate (Within 2-years of graduation) with coursework from an accredited college in business administration, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • AND/OR some experience in advertising, marketing, public relations, events/outreach, customer service, or business-related areas.
