Job Description:

We are currently looking for a General Administrator to join our team at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT providing essential administrative support across the contract and helping ensure the smooth running of military offices and headquarters.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work closely with military personnel, families and external organisations, providing professional administrative support and helping to maintain high standards of service delivery.

What You’ll Do:

As a General Administrator, you will provide administrative support across different units and headquarters as required. Your duties may include:

  • Providing clerical and administrative support to Units or Headquarters

  • Assisting military personnel with report schedules and JPA workflow

  • Producing and distributing Part One Orders and other official documentation

  • Maintaining and updating repeat orders, convening orders, delegation of powers and boards of enquiries

  • Managing and maintaining documentation and records on JPA and Unit/HQ systems

  • Producing and maintaining personnel records and reports

  • Preparing mailshots, invitations, posters and other communications

  • Drafting and preparing sensitive written work on behalf of senior leaders

  • Maintaining accurate records including married quarter addresses

  • Acting as a key point of contact for military personnel, families and external organisations

  • Supporting unit-led events and functions such as coffee mornings

  • Answering telephone calls professionally and managing incoming and outgoing post

  • Supporting general office administration and completing ad-hoc tasks as required

You will also play an important role in maintaining a welcoming and professional environment when dealing with personnel, families and external agencies.

What You Bring:

  • Strong administrative background

  • Excellent IT skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion

  • 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) or NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration

  • Must be able to obtain BPSS clearance and DBS check

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a military environment

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Professional and confident telephone manner
