Data Engineer (L5) - Messaging
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.
At Netflix, Messaging refers to our off-platform communications with members (e.g., emails, push notifications) as well as in-product interstitials. Messaging has long been a key lever for driving growth and member engagement at Netflix. As we invest in new formats like Live Content and Games, Messaging becomes even more critical to our success. Messaging will play a critical role in notifying and reminding members when these new events occur, helping them adapt to this new model of engagement with Netflix content.
In this role, you will work collaboratively with data engineers and other partners in the messaging space to build reliable, scalable data pipelines using Apache Spark/Flink. These pipelines will power analytic dashboards, custom viz applications, A/B experiments, and algo features.
We cannot build one-off pipelines for each and every use case. Rather, the right candidate will see this problem through a platform lens, building scalable, flexible data products that support the many current use cases and can adapt to future ones. This candidate will have previous experience building out new systems from the ground up and past success with complex cross-domain partnerships.
Who you are:
• You have experience in distributed data processing (Batch or Streaming)
• You have strong SQL skills
• You are proficient in at least one major programming language and are passionate about writing clean, supportable code.
• You have strong data modeling skills. You design structures that adapt to changes in source data or business processes.
• You are an advocate for data quality. You have a strong opinion on when data audits, unit tests, and documentation can be most effective.
• You have strong communication skills that enable you to effectively collaborate with data scientists and engineering partners.
• You are curious about the rapidly evolving technologies in this domain. You are eager to learn and master new tech that can have a big impact on our team.
• You have proven success leading complex technical projects
• You can relate to many aspects of Netflix Culture and love to operate independently while collaborating and giving/receiving candid feedback from your team members.
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $380,000.00 - $610,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location.
Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more details about our Benefits here.
Netflix is a unique culture and environment.
