Lycoming College is hiring a Custodial Supervisor to join our Buildings and Grounds team.

This is a key member of the Buildings & Grounds team that supervisors a group of custodians and also performs routine and non-routine custodial maintenance as part of a team assigned to specific buildings or areas on campus. The custodial supervisor position plays an important role in helping keep campus beautiful.


This position is a full-time position that works primarily Monday through Friday 4am-12pm with overtime available for certain weekends and evenings for specific activities.

What will I do in this role?
A Custodial Supervisor is responsible for supervising a group of custodians and facilitating custodial shift operations to ensure a clean, orderly and safe environment for students, faculty/staff, and visitors on campus.  Under the oversight of the Assistant Director of Physical Plant, this position implements and maintains planned and established priorities and departmental policies and procedures, trains and orients new staff, maintains departmental records such as daily attendance and reviewing and approving timesheets and time off requests, work assignments, maintenance/cleaning/service schedules, and work orders for repair or maintenance.

Additionally, a Custodial Supervisor manages the custodial supply inventory, facilitates conference and event set-ups and arrangements as planned, and handles employee performance situations/implements corrective actions as needed for Custodians this position supervises. 

A Custodial Supervisor arranges appropriate custodial team staffing based upon needs and absenteeism.  A Custodial Supervisor may be involved in the hiring of new Custodians.

This is a working supervisor position where this position is also responsible for performing custodial and general maintenance duties in and around campus facilities, responding to emergency calls for service, implementing setups and teardowns for a wide variety of campus and community events, working closely with employees and students to meet the custodial needs of their designated areas, and resolving custodial-related problems to ensure efficient and safe operations. 

Custodial Services is one of several campus departments designated as “emergency-on-call” for emergency situations (e.g. inclement weather snow and ice removal or emergency clean-up/other urgent situations).

What are we looking for?

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required. 
  •  At least 2 years of industrial or commercial cleaning preferred
  • 1-3 years of prior supervisory or lead experience is strongly preferred.
  • Must be energetic, a positive team player, and able to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to frequently bend, kneel, stoop, push / pull, reach above and below shoulder height, climb ladders and stairs, and routinely lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs. unassisted and move objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance as needed.
