Employment Status: Full time Shift: Any Day, Any Shift (United States of America) Facility: 1906 Belleview Ave SE - Roanoke Requisition Number: R158625 CHIEF OF POLICE & SECURITY- SR DIR (Open) How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare: Plans, develops and directs operations for Carilion Clinic security and safety services ensuring the professional delivery of law enforcement, security, crime prevention, emergency management, safety, and other established services for Carilion Clinic, its patients, personnel, visitors and others utilizing Carilion Clinics properties and facilities. Serves as Police Chief within the Carilion Clinic Police Department and directs the operations of the department. Directs the Security function. Participates/collaborates with Emergency Management safety functions. Provides inquiries into internal and external complaints and oversees conflict resolution when needed. Researches, establishes and implements protocols and policies within the department that is in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Defines performance measures and monitors progress. Implements practices to enhance safety, emergency management, and security. As requested evaluates and makes recommendations about organization-wide security operations. Addresses assigned personnel performance issues including preparing performance evaluations, implementing necessary disciplinary actions and improvement plans. Identifies and promotes opportunities for staff development. Performs law enforcement, emergency management, and safety duties as needed. Coordinates security efforts with area law enforcement agencies and regulators. Serves on task forces or committees as needed. #lawenforcement What We Require: Education: Bachelors Degree with major course work in one of the following fields: political science, criminal justice, public administration, human resources or related field. Masters preferred. Specialty management training such as obtained through FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, etc. is a plus. Experience: Seven to ten years in a law enforcement or public safety position with five years in a management or supervisory role. Licensure, certification, and/or registration: (1) Has met Virginias minimum training standards for law enforcement officers and is currently certified as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, (2) Has a valid Virginia Drivers License. Applicants may qualify for the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Executive Certification Waiver. This pathway is available to individuals outside the Commonwealth, currently serving as a Chief of Police or as the second-in-command of a law enforcement agency. Candidates must have prior law enforcement certification (in Virginia or another state), at least 20 years of substantial law enforcement experience, and a documented record of progressive rank advancement. Applicants must also provide documentation confirming their primary duties are administrative in nature. Additionally, candidates must have separated from prior law enforcement service within the past 60 months and must have left that position in good standing. Other Minimum Qualifications: Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem-solving and interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated leadership abilities. Computer keyboarding skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software.
