Other Jobs To Apply

No other job posts for this day.

Project Overview -I am preparing to publish a nonfiction book and am seeking an experienced book interior designer / typesetter to develop the interior layout and typography system.

The book is a reflective nonfiction work focused on personal development, leadership, and life philosophy. It will include multiple print editions (three) and an eBook.

The goal is to create a clean, timeless interior design that emphasizes readability and elegance—something consistent with modern literary nonfiction.

The designer will develop a master interior design system that can be adapted across multiple (3) trim sizes and formats.

Scope of Work -The selected designer will:

• Develop a master interior design concept

• Apply that design to multiple print formats (3)

• Prepare print-ready files

• Prepare an eBook (EPUB) version

The project includes layout and typesetting for the following editions:

1. Author’s Edition Hardcover (Offset Print)

Trim size: 6.25 × 8.75

Printed via offset printer

Premium aesthetic with refined typography and generous margins

2. Trade Hardcover (Print-on-Demand)

Trim size: 6 × 9

Files compatible with IngramSpark and/or KDP

3. Trade Paperback (Print-on-Demand)

Trim size: 5.5 × 8.5

4. eBook

Reflowable EPUB format for major platforms (Kindle, Apple Books, etc.)

Manuscript Details

Genre: Nonfiction / personal development / reflective essays

Estimated word count: approximately 55,000 words

Estimated final length: approximately 250–320 pages, depending on trim size

Interior elements include:

• Part divider pages

• Chapter openers

• Epigraphs

• Block quotations

• Occasional lists

• Section breaks

• End matter (acknowledgments, notes, etc.)

• Index (to be created separately and inserted later)

The manuscript will be delivered in clean Microsoft Word format (.docx).

Design Style

I am looking for a classic, highly readable literary interior.

Examples of the style I admire include books by:

• Ryan Holiday

• Rick Rubin (The Creative Act)

Key design priorities:

• Elegant serif body font

• Thoughtful typography hierarchy

• Balanced margins and spacing

• Clean chapter openers

• Drop caps used only at the beginning of major sections or parts, not every chapter

• Subtle section dividers

• Excellent readability for long-form text

The final design should feel timeless rather than trendy.

Interior Design Motif

The current cover concept incorporates tree rings as a visual metaphor for growth, time, and accumulated experience.

I am interested in subtly incorporating this motif within the interior design, potentially through elements such as:

• Part divider pages

• Section ornaments

• Chapter headers

• Graphic accents

I welcome the designer’s ideas for integrating this motif in a minimal, tasteful way.

Deliverables

Print:

• Print-ready PDFs for offset printer (Author’s Edition)

• Print-ready PDFs compatible with IngramSpark and/or KDP

eBook:

• Validated EPUB file

Source Files:

• Packaged Adobe InDesign files

• Fonts and linked assets where licensing allows

Index Integration

A professional indexer will be hired separately.

The designer should be available to:

• Insert the completed index

• Format it appropriately

• Regenerate final print files after index insertion

Timeline

The manuscript will be finalized in approximately 2–3 weeks.

Desired timeline:

• Interior design concept: approximately 1 week

• Full layout: approximately 2–3 weeks

• Review and revisions: approximately 1 week

Total project timeline: approximately 4–6 weeks.
