Job Title: Bartender
Location: Common or Garden Pub
Job Type: Full-time & Part-time (Evenings, Weekends & Holidays as required)
Experience: Preferred but not required – we will train the right person.

General Responsibilities

  • Greet guests warmly and take drink orders, offering menu recommendations and answering questions
  • Prepare and serve beverages—cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options—following established recipes and guest preferences
  • Check identification to verify legal drinking age and serve alcohol responsibly in compliance with state/local laws
  • Operate the POS system, accept and process payments (cash, credit/debit), open/close tabs and provide accurate change
  • Maintain a clean, organized and inviting bar area: stock glassware, garnishes, ice, mixers, beer taps, and bar supplies; wipe down surfaces; clear emptied glasses and trash
  • Monitor and restock inventory and supplies behind the bar; assist with deliveries, product rotation and storage
  • Work with team members (bar‐backs, servers, kitchen) to ensure smooth flow of service and guest satisfaction
  • Assist in opening and closing procedures: set up work‐stations, clean & reset bar area, perform end‐of‐shift reconciliations
  • Maintain and enforce safety, health and sanitation standards—proper handling of glassware, cleaning of bar tools and equipment, responsible alcohol service
  • Engage with guests to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere; respond to guest questions or concerns in a polite and professional manner
  • Upsell specials or premium beverages when appropriate to enhance guest experience and revenue
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned (e.g., helping with events, re-setting bar area, basic food service support)

Skills & Requirements

Required:

  • Must meet the minimum legal age to serve/handle alcohol in our state
  • Certification in responsible alcohol service (e.g., TIPS)
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Comfortable standing and moving for long periods, lifting/carrying up to ~25–50 lbs (cases of beer, kegs, etc)
  • Basic math skills (making change, handling tabs) and comfort with POS systems
  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment, stay calm under pressure, and keep a positive attitude
  • Willingness to learn and follow drink recipes, safe handling of alcoholic beverages, and bar safety/sanitation standards
  • Team player who works cooperatively with other staff

Preferred (but not required):

  • Prior bartending or beverage‐service experience (in a pub, restaurant or bar)
  • Familiarity with craft cocktails, beer taps, wine service or mixology techniques
  • Food service/restaurant experience or knowledge of bar inventory and stock management
  • Strong knowledge of spirits, wines, beers and mixers; ability to make drink recommendations
  • Some experience in opening/closing bar operations, inventory counting or bar‐back tasks

Starting wage is $6.75/hr + tips but skilled and committed individuals are candidates for higher wages. Tips per hour varies between $15-$40 based on how busy we are.
