While our core engineering team is based in Australia, we are remote-friendly and looking for an engineer dedicated to operating on UK business hours. We're looking for a candidate who is passionate about engineering and technology, can solve technical problems and is able to communicate problems and solutions with ease.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>What You'll Be Doing</strong></p><p>As a Backend Support Engineer, you will be the primary Level 2 technical responder during UK operating hours, ensuring our platform runs smoothly for our global partners and clients. Your responsibilities will include:</p><ul><li><strong>Owning Level 2+ Support:</strong> Triaging, debugging, and resolving complex technical tickets escalated by our customer success and L1 support teams.</li><li><strong>Core Engineering:</strong> When the support queue is clear, you will operate as a standard backend engineer — tackling technical debt, performing system maintenance, and optimising the platform.</li><li>Integrating with a range of external services such as Salesforce, Auth0, Cloudflare, and more.</li><li>Maintaining our infrastructure on a major cloud provider to support our rapid growth.</li><li>Writing well-structured, tested, and documented code that's a pleasure to maintain.</li><li>Working closely with our Product, Design, and other teams to refine deliverables and bring new features to life.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>What We're Looking For</strong></p><p>We're seeking a passionate Ruby on Rails expert backend engineer who can solve complex technical problems and communicate solutions with ease.</p><p><strong>Required Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to work standard UK business hours (remote).</li><li>Minimum 5 years of commercial Ruby on Rails experience. </li><li>Proven experience in a technical support, site reliability, or escalations engineering role.</li><li>Proven experience integrating with multiple external APIs.</li><li>Experience with database design and performance tuning, particularly with PostgreSQL.</li><li>Experience designing and maintaining infrastructure with AWS, GCP, or Heroku.</li><li>Experience with testing frameworks like Rspec.</li><li>Experience with high-volume background job processing frameworks like Sidekiq.</li><li>Proficiency with development tools like Linear or Jira.</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills, crucial for customer and internal team interactions.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Bonus Points:</strong></p><ul><li>Experience with helpdesk or ticketing software (e.g., Zendesk, ZohoDesk).</li><li>Experience with security best practices (e.g., OWASP, STRIDE).</li><li>Interest in automating repetitive tasks using AI tools and techniques.</li><li>Experience in high-volume production environments with strict availability SLAs.</li><li>Knowledge of the financial services industry (lending or corporate finance).</li><li>Experience navigating GDPR and/or SOC2.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Benefits & Culture</strong></p><p>We're a remote-friendly team, and while this role is completely remote to cover UK hours, you'll be deeply integrated into our culture.
