Job Function

The Assurance Staff Accountant will work on a variety of diversified assurance and review engagements under the supervision of various professional staff members. The Assurance team is happy to welcome employees to our Itasca and Chicago offices, along with anyone who is ready to work remotely.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participates in all phases of multiple audit and review engagements, including planning, internal control analysis and preparing detailed reports on findings
  • Researches applicable GAAS and GAAP standards and rules
  • Prepares, analyzes, and verifies annual reports, financial statements, and other records, using accepted accounting procedures
  • Collects and analyzes data to detect deficient controls, fraud, or non-compliance with laws, regulations, and management policies
  • Reviews data about material assets, net worth, liabilities, capital stock, surplus, income, and expenditures
  • Uses logic and reasoning to examine and evaluate financial and information systems, recommending controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity
  • Inspects cash on hand, notes receivable and payable, negotiable securities, and canceled checks to confirm records are accurate
  • Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
  • Examines records and interviews workers to ensure recording of transactions and compliance with laws and regulations
  • Examines inventory to verify journal and ledger entries
  • Examines whether the clients’ objectives are reflected in its management activities, and whether employees understand the objectives
  • Audits payroll and personnel records to determine unemployment insurance premiums, workers' compensation coverage, liabilities, and compliance with tax laws
  • Reports to management about audit results, including business strategies, practices and policies, and recommend changes in operations and financial activities
  • Understands the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to determine how a client’s system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes
  • Develops relationships with clients to help ensure the information flow from the client to the audit team is efficient
  • Ability to use computer-assisted auditing techniques (CAATs) during standard audit procedures

Personal Responsibilities

  • Pass the CPA exam
  • Develop excellent oral and written communication skills, while also creating specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships and maintain them over time
  • Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis
  • Maintain and expand knowledge base in area of expertise

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field
  • Current CPA license a plus
  • Ability and willingness to travel to clients within the Firm’s market area
  • Native and/or Business level Japanese language skill required
Bonus
  • Eligible for annual discretionary bonus, depending on individual and company performance
  • Employee must be actively employed at the time the bonus is distributed
