Position: Assistant Head (Academic) & Key Stage 2 Teacher - 11+ experience essential.

Job Description:
As the Assistant Head (Academic) & Key Stage 2 Teacher at The Lyceum, you will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners within the primary curriculum.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Play a key role within the school as a member of the SLT and attend regular SLT meetings

  • Perform Key Stage 2 class teacher role

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the Key Stage 2 department including organising book looks and lesson observations

  • Oversee all Curriculum matters within the school/work closely with the Deputy Head – reporting to the Headmaster

  • Manage members of staff within KS2 department and support them with day-to-day issues

  • Responsible for overseeing appraisals for some staff members

  • Work closely with SENCO and Head of Assessment to ensure consistency of academic progress for all children

  • Oversee implementation of the Dukes’ Diploma – the Dukes’ curriculum

  • Support the Headmaster with Open Mornings and other Curriculum events

  • Oversee 11+ references for all children in Year 6

  • Forge links through communication and visits to senior schools

  • Keep Marketing Executive informed of new initiatives and providing regular photos to be placed on social media

  • Keep up to date with new Curriculum information

  • Initiate and implement new Curriculum initiatives, in conjunction with the SLT

  • Maintain academic standards and presentation across the Department

  • Ensure evidence is stored and presented in preparation for ISI inspection

  • Liaise with Deputy Head about the Booster Programme and interventions, targeting specific needs in the run up to the 11+

  • Organise and deliver CPD to staff and assemblies to pupils as and when required

  • Act as a role model of outstanding teaching

  • Trips organiser

  • Act as occasional mentor or tutor for staff

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience of working with children preparing for the 11+ exams is essential.

  • A relevant teaching qualification or equivalent certification in primary education.

  • Strong knowledge of the Key Stage 2 curriculum requirements.

  • Ability to plan and deliver effective lessons tailored to diverse learning styles.

  • Excellent classroom management skills and ability to foster positive student relationships.

  • Good communication skills with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
